August, Month of Technical and Vocational Education: Seminars, Gatherings, and Opportunities for Young People

26 •  Sep •  2025

Last month, Fundación Luksic participated in seminars, regional meetings, and educational fairs related to technical and vocational education (TVE), with the goal of continuing to promote study continuity and the participation of young people and women in STEM fields.

Technical and Vocational Education Month is an opportunity to highlight its importance as the first step in students’ educational journeys, opening doors for continued learning and development. Throughout this period, Fundación Luksic joined several initiatives that brought together students, teachers, school leaders, authorities, and educational organizations, reinforcing its commitment to create new opportunities and support young people in their path toward higher education and professional growth.

Seminar “Valor Técnico, Valor País” – El Mercurio

Fundación Luksic’s Education Director, Fernanda Orellana, participated in the seminar organized by El Mercurio, where the relevance of technical and vocational education in Chile and the country’s main challenges were discussed. The event provided a space to reflect on how to strengthen TVE training and its impact on students and society.

Comeduc Seminar: From Secondary TVE to Higher Education

At the seminar “Where Innovation Meets Excellence: Public Policies for 21st Century TVE”, Fernanda Orellana led the panel “Study Continuity: From Secondary TVE to Higher Education.” Alongside students, teachers, principals, and civil society representatives, findings from the Future Aspirations 2025 (#ASF) Program were presented, underscoring the importance of providing timely and accessible information so that young people can make informed decisions about their academic future.

Regional Gatherings – Luksic Scholarship: More Women in STEM

In recent weeks, three regional gatherings of the Luksic Scholarship: More Women in STEM were held, bringing together around 100 scholarship recipients from northern, central, and southern Chile. Students from INACAP, Duoc UC, AIEP, and Santo Tomás participated in sessions that provided tools for their academic and professional development, while strengthening a community committed to women’s talent and leadership in STEM. Workshops led by Jimena Zapata of Genias encouraged participants to empower themselves in their career paths and aim high in their goals.

Agreement with SLEP Santa Corina

At Liceo Enrique Kirberg, Fundación Luksic signed an agreement with the Santa Corina Local Public Education Service as part of the Future Aspirations program. This milestone highlights the importance of public–private partnerships to implement concrete, coordinated actions that benefit school communities. To date, ASF is present in two-thirds of the country’s technical and vocational high schools, supporting thousands of students in their path to higher education and broader opportunities.

Vocational Fair “Explore, Think, and Decide” – Fundación 99

Fundación Luksic also participated in the vocational fair “Explore, Think, and Decide”, organized by Fundación 99 at UC’s Villarrica campus and aimed at students from rural schools. During the event, Fundación Luksic held the talk “Higher Education: What to Consider When Applying,” based on ASF learnings, addressing:

  • Differences and similarities between higher education institutions

  • Application processes in the technical-professional and university systems

  • Available funding opportunities

International Seminar “Vertebral: TVE in Times of Change”

Fundación Luksic participated in the international seminar “Technical and Vocational Education in Times of Change”, organized by Vertebral, together with Chilevalora and the Mining Council. The event gathered more than 700 participants both in person and online, analyzing the challenges and opportunities presented by artificial intelligence, new learning formats, and the future of work. The seminar highlighted cross-sector collaboration among university leaders, higher education institutions, the Ministry of Education, and industry representatives, consolidating it as a key space for discussing the future of TVE in Chile.

“In this month of technical and vocational education, we renew our conviction that all students have the potential to build their own future. Supporting them with tools, information, and guidance at critical educational decision points is essential so they can access better opportunities, strengthen their abilities, and contribute to Chile’s progress. This month reminds us of the importance of continuing to promote initiatives that support educational pathways that transform lives and strengthen the country’s development,” said Fernanda Orellana.
