The challenge of advancing AI as a tool for transformation is a shared responsibility among various actors. Educational institutions have implemented diverse strategies to position AI as an ally, and in the public sector, Chile’s National Agency for Research and Development (ANID) recently designated AI as a priority area within its Becas Chile scholarship program. This move underscores the urgency of training professionals who are equipped to address the ethical, social, and technical challenges posed by this technology.
At Fundación Luksic, through our International Learning area, we launched in 2024 a scholarship program that fully funds Chilean students accepted into the Master’s in Artificial Intelligence and Data Ethics at the University of Edinburgh—one of the world’s leading institutions in this field. This interdisciplinary master’s program prepares professionals to anticipate and address the ethical, social, and regulatory dilemmas associated with the use of AI, with a critical, applied, and global perspective.
This year, the program celebrates the graduation of its first Chilean recipient, while four new students—coming from different regions and backgrounds in higher education, data science, and public policy—are set to begin their studies. Despite their diverse experiences, they share a common goal: to contribute to the responsible development of AI in Chile by integrating what they learn into their professional and local contexts.
“The development of AI must go hand in hand with deep and ongoing reflection. We believe that investing in human capabilities is essential for this technology to become a true opportunity to amplify talent and act as a driver of transformation,” says Trinidad García, Director of International Learning at Fundación Luksic.
By supporting initiatives like this, Fundación Luksic contributes not only to the professional development of individuals but also to the strengthening of capacities across multiple sectors—such as education, healthcare, and transportation—that are currently navigating the rapid advancement of AI technologies.
